Jake & Jacky Automatic Pet Bowl

As a cat mother, I worry a bit about the eating behavior of my cat children. When the boys first came to live with me, I wanted to give them unlimited food (just like with Sherry). I gave their wet food on a bowl and the chunks in a nice enrichment food bowl. Unfortunately, I noticed that Donnie started eating less wet food this way because the Ragdolls had already eaten everything. I then changed from bowls to their own Surefeed. This way I knew that Donnie also got enough food and the Ragdolls could just eat their own bowls.

But guess what...they had their last feeding at 8 am and then again at 6 am and because the Ragdolls had already eaten everything they were without food for about 10 hours because even the extra chunks the ones I put down before I went to bed were immediately eaten... This started to worry me. I then started looking for solutions so that the boys could still have food even when I was sleeping.

Feed several times a day

Although I actually wanted to give them unlimited food, that turned out not to be a solution for me, so I had to look for another solution. Because a cat naturally tends to eat a small portion several times a day, I decided to feed them several times a day. But how often should I feed them? For me it was very simple: I wanted them to get fresh food every 4 hours. With their Surefeed they can then decide for themselves whether they eat it right away or not. But that means I had to feed them as early as 2am. Because the first meal I wanted to give is already at 6:00 am. The next meals came at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Yikes!

Let's be honest, I certainly don't get out of bed at night to feed them so I had to come up with a solution...

Automatic feeders

Because I was looking for a solution for the nights, I looked around for an automatic feeder. The problem with most bowls is that there is only 1 food bowl attached. I have 4 cats and I don't want them to eat from 1 bowl and I thought putting 4 of those bowls was a bit much (and, to be honest, I wouldn't have the room for that either).

There are automatic feeders with 2 food bowls attached, but what I find a problem is that these are always at the front and the cats therefore have to eat next to each other and I want to avoid that as much as possible.

Unfortunately, these automatic feeders were not a solution for me. But then I came across the Jake & Jacky Automatic Pet Bowl against!

The first thing I noticed about this feeder was that the feeders were on the side. I had not seen this before and so my interest in this feeder was aroused. There are two stainless steel containers, which I think is better than plastic and the design looks super sleek (oh, and I always like it being black). You can set multiple meals and the amount of kibble. In addition, there are also 2 anti-gobble food bowls included!

The choice was easy and I got one of those food bowls from Jake & Bought Jacky to try out.

I set it up immediately the day it was delivered. The food bowl is easy to set up, I immediately noticed that. You can record your voice and it will sound 3 times before the treats are given. Now I turned it off after a few days because I woke up on it. That is not the intention of course.

The bowl has a capacity of 5 liters and although that is quite a lot, I decided not to fill the food bowl that much. I fill the box with about a week's worth of food and then every week I completely clean the box. I clean the bowls that come with it every day and I find it a disadvantage that they cannot be purchased separately (or possibly in a different color). I also think it's a shame that the normal containers are stainless steel, but the anti-shock containers are plastic. Would have preferred both in stainless steel (or possibly ceramic - as I have not seen any stainless steel anti-shock containers yet). Maybe the trays will come loose, who knows. I would definitely recommend working with different colors. Would be nice too. Of course I'll take black.

The pros

1. Structured Meals:Because you can set the time when meals are served, it helps maintain a reliable schedule.

2. Wireless:Automatic baking always requires a power supply. Fortunately, this box is not because it also works on batteries. Since I wanted to have one of the boxes in the attic, where I have no electricity, this was certainly a solution.

3. Anti-gobble trays: I always give kibble in an enriched food tray. This food bowl comes with anti-gobble bowls.

The cons

1. Pricey: Although it falls within the price range of an automatic feeder, I still think it is pricey considering it does not come with an app and/or camera.

2. No camera or app: and then I come straight to my next disadvantage. The feeder promotes that you don't have to hassle with poorly functioning apps. I actually miss this in this feeder and especially a camera. Now I don't know who eats some of it.

3. Portion control: You can't really choose how much kibble you give. It provides a standard portion of 6 grams. If you want more, add 6 grams (so 12 grams per container). Now I would have liked to have more control over this and not be stuck with those 6 grams per container.

Conclusion

In the meantime, I use 2 of those automatic feeders (I have 4 cat children) and am very happy with them. Although I don't know for sure, I hope that all four of my cat children can now enjoy their treats at night. I often hear them flowing towards it, so I suspect it will be fine.

Since I got these bowls, I worry less about my boys' eating behavior. During the day they get their portion of wet food 4 times a day and at night they get their portion of kibble. I don't have to do much for that. I'm really happy with this solution and even happier that I found this feeder. Definitely recommended!
